membership

The membership of the Association consists of different levels of membership. There are Qualified Master Farriers, Farrier, Apprentice/Trainee, Associate members, Honorary members and Life members.

A Qualified Master Farrier has completed a National Certificate of Equine Practice, or Certificate of Farriery Practice, or holds an equivalent overseas qualification or certificate from their country of origin. Qualified Master Farriers often occupy and control premises which are registered by the NZFA.

Farrier Membership is for those members who are attempting to attain a qualification deemed suitable to become a Qualified Master Farrier within a certain time-frame suggested by the NZFA

Apprentice/Trainee Members are members who have commenced their second year of apprenticeship with an employer who agrees to train and send the trainee to training courses organised by this Association. Membership for trainees is free but does not include voting rights.

Provisional Members are those unable to fulfil the training agreements of NZFA and must, at their own expense, attend one course per year and completed all correspondence course papers. In six years time they must reach Farrier Member status. Provisional Membership category carries no voting rights.

Associate membership is open to any individual persons, firm or Company who supports the aims and objects of the Association. The Subscription is not less than 50% of a Master Farriers subscription.

Honorary Members are elected by a majority of financial members at the Annual General Meeting of the Association.

Life Members are elected by a majority at the Annual General Meeting of the Association. This class of membership is restricted to registered members of the Association upon their retirement from active participation in the craft or deemed worthy through exceptional circumstances.
