Gladstone
September 18-19. 2010

Gladstone proved to be the best competition in the country again this year with a great turnout and fantastic weather considering that the rest of the country was experiencing the biggest low pressure system on the planet (met office description) with high winds and driving rain. We also had the Australians to contend with this year and they were setting a cracking pace.

This competition is becoming not only the best but the biggest in the country due to the effort and hard work of Marshall Millar and his team. Marshall would like to thank the following sponsors for their generosity and support.

Warren and Sara Robinson at the Gladstone Inn, (fantastic food, friendly staff and the beer is perfectly chilled) Farmers Transport, Professionals, Rosengrave & Vallance and Mc Entree Event Hire all from Masterton; Richard Thompson for supplying the steel; Mustad NZ Ltd and Bryant Farrier Ltd for prizes.

The other big thank you goes to Pat Crowley for his hard work and effort. Judging is a difficult and demanding job but he handled it with a good sense of humour and a fair hand.

Well done to the winners

23rd - 24th July
Judged by: Bruce McDonald

Intermediate
1st Matt West of Taumaranui
2nd Ryan Harris-Hayse from Taranaki
3rd Craig Bradley from Cambridge

Open 1st Marcel Veart-Smith from Dairy Flat
2nd Jimmy Bryant from Kumeu
3rd Pat Schimanski from Taranaki

Prizes were supplied by Mustad New Zealand Ltd for the senior division with Bryant Farriers providing prizes for the intermediate class. Farmlands kindly provided spot prizes as well. Flyger Engineering of Silverdale supplied the steel at cost. Many thanks to those sponsors for their kind and generous support.

The heavy horse event was possible only due to the generosity of Paul Stroobant, of Kia Kaha Stud in Helensville, providing the Clydesdale horses. These magnificent horses with their quiet disposition made it very easy for the competitors to shoe. After 75mins of non-stop toil the winners were:

1st Grant Nyhan, Marcel Veart-Smith and Deane Gebert
2nd Pat Schimanski, Lane Cameron and Ryan Harris Hayse
3rd James Collins, Brendon Emmitt and Craig Bradley.
